On the Great wall of China
Here I am.
I now live in Nagano City, Japan. You will find me studying Japanese most days. This is my first foreign language to learn. I follow Jesus and want to draw closer to Him and walk with Him each day. His great love for me is overwhelming and captivating. I teach some English, perform some weddings and occasionally lecture at a university here in town.

Here is my beautiful wife. God truly blessed me with a wonderful wife to journey with. She teaches English at a school here in town. She is super creative and talented. She grew up in Japan moving here at the age of 3 and moving back to the US at age 17. Needless to say, she speaks much better Japanese than I do. We are both learning to read and write Japanese.

Sara & Shelly on a train in Japan
And here are my very beautiful, talented, and smart daughters. Sara lives in India and Shelly lives in Seattle. They both graduated from Baylor University where their Mother is an alum. I’m very proud of them. I wish I lived closer to them, but I’m very thankful for the technology that allows us to stay in touch.

My wife and daughters are amazing! I am very thankful for them!
Byron, I have truly enjoyed your “blogging” site. What a wonderful young man you have grown into with such an amazing family…I still picture you as a “little” boy.
In looking at the pictures of your daughters, the one on the right is a reflection of “Herbert”…Has anyone ever told you this? It brought tears to my eyes…The best to you and your loved ones. Aunt Nancy
Hello Aunt Nancy,
No one has ever told me that Shelly looks like Uncle Herbert. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate your note. Hope you’re doing well.
Byron,
I never read a blog from anyone…You are a very blessed man, proud to call you a great friend!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently ran into your blog while doing some random google searches. I must say I have enjoyed it and admire your dedication to living in the here and now while spreading the word of the Lord. You appear to enjoy the simple things in a somewhat complicated life. I would love to learn more about this youth ministry you are involved in. I have peeked into the blogs of your children and they too seem like amazing people. What an interesting contradiction you are; such a close family living very far apart. That takes courage!
Well the crazy thing is while looking at your blog I about fell off my chair when I saw pictures of Keiko and Mrs. Toyoda. I know them and have in fact stayed at their home in Obuse many times when I was in Japan in 1985 and again in 1987. They are lovely people and I think of them often. I am very glad to see they are both healthy. I am extremely glad to see Keiko is still involved in a Christian ministry. She is such a lovely person.
Well once again thank you for your blog. Good luck with your studies. Good luck and God bless your family as well as your dedication to serve the Lord!
Hey Byron,
First time to visit your blog; marvelous. I’m venturing out in the technolgy world; finally figured out how to respond to it. Brought back so many memories; recognized many. As usual your photos are the best.
Who knows, I may be knocking on your door soon. :0)
Give Liz a hug for me. Check you later,
